Fantacomando, the Script Change Replay spin-off you didn't know you needed (we didn't either)

As if one wasn't exhausting enough, The Locagrams didn't have enough of the Jam and came up with the sick idea of reshaping the whole content of the main submission in the form of educational tool for kids and their teachers.

Or else, we would have to get rid of those lovely cards we managed to (painfully) create.

Simply put, we decided to go with two different versions of the game to stay true to the spirit of the #LocJAM. On one side, we wanted to tackle the text with a more standard approach (to check that, have a look at our Ruolacomando). On the other side, we felt the need to do something more creative while taking the freedom to change the source text.

While researching the past LocJAMs to truly understand what participants could do (and dare) with their creations, Chiara came up with the idea of using this format with children to help them navigate their life over different development phases.

(Chiara's edit: sort of: I was actually just thinking of what type of image would be suitable to convey the tools' actions and how to keep them simple, and the only thing I could think of were puppets and plushes performing actions, especially sweet vintage ones, but unfortunately I couldn't find any. And that's when we realized that starting from illustrations for kids we could create something different, with its own meaning to exist. Then Bea suggested it would have been great for educators)

After some brainstorming, we decided to create a different version of Script Change addressed to teachers of primary school as a potential part of a program for the development of social-emotional skills and self-awareness.

In our minds, the teachers would study the rules of this version of Script Change before showing it to their class—or even try it first-hand, if they want. As Script Change is “a content, consent, and safety toolbox”, it could be a perfect addition to help children use fantasy, empathy and learn how to face their feelings and respect their peers.

This version might be less accurate than the original submission, as it was created in half of the time, while taking care of other things, but we believed so much in our idea (and in our cute cards) that we did our best to submit it in time, even if possibly still not entirely polished. 👇🏻

(Yeah, below the line we should have "bleah" and "bua", not "tools" and "bua"... 🤦🏻‍♀️ In our defense, this was imported in the CAT tool directly from the source 😅)

Compared to the previous submission, this was probably less time-consuming, as we were starting from the structure of the already translated one, but while we strove to be as neutral as possible, in this case it could only be partially achieved.

While we have some gender neutral terms to address teachers and people working in the school, we don't have any word to address something like "kids", therefore we were forced to use longer formulas such as "bambini e bambine" (boys and girls) or "alunni e alunne" (male and female pupils). We did our best to be careful in our choices, but Italian language still has some limits when it comes to non-binary friendly language.

In this case, we decided to have a simple and clear text that could be used at school and could be read by anyone.

Who knows, maybe in the future we'll find out if theachers from Itch.io tried this tool with their classes and how it went!
